Justice in the Wake of the Storm: Pisgah Legal Services
The Laurel magazine explores the critical work of NC IOLTA grantee Pisgah Legal Services in Western North Carolina since Hurricane Helene — and the challenges the legal aid organization faces amid federal and state funding cuts.
A provision in the state 2026 Appropriations Act sets new requirements for NC IOLTA, including redirecting IOLTA funds previously used to support civil legal aid to the state Office of Indigent Defense Services for its Private Assigned Counsel Fund. Information about the implementation of this legislation and updates to the website are forthcoming.
More information about the requirements set forth in the legislation is available here. Information about the Oct. 9, 2026, constitutional challenge to this provision is available here.
