NC IOLTA has expanded its capacity for strategic communications and storytelling with a new full-time staff position.

As communications and outreach coordinator, Karen Lewis Taylor will focus on connecting with the organization’s key stakeholders — North Carolina lawyers, banks and nonprofit organizations — and sharing stories that explore the impact of the grantmaking that the state’s IOLTA program makes possible.

“Our current strategic plan emphasizes the importance of more robust communications and outreach in raising awareness both of the need for civil legal aid across the state and the ways the NC IOLTA program works to address that need,” NC IOLTA Executive Director Mary Irvine said. “We are thrilled to add this position to our team as we work to connect with partners about the critical work we are able to accomplish together.”

Taylor, who joined NC IOLTA on April 1, brings to her role nearly 20 years of experience managing print and digital publications, editing complex content and crafting compelling stories for mission-driven organizations. Her responsibilities will include maintaining the organization’s recently redesigned website, developing and implementing a strategic communications plan for NC IOLTA’s stakeholders and partnering with Irvine, NC IOLTA Program Manager Dan Labarca and grantees to highlight the many ways this funding helps ensure individuals, families and children have access to high-quality civil legal services.

“NC IOLTA’s mission resonates with me as both a lifelong North Carolinian who treasures the quality of life we have here and someone who cares deeply about justice,” Taylor said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to contribute to NC IOLTA’s strategic messaging and help strengthen communications and connections with the many people who help make that possible.”
