Lawyers like you make access to justice possible.

Banks like yours build strong communities.

The State Bar’s Rules of Professional Conduct call on lawyers in North Carolina to “ensure equal access to our system of justice for all those who, because of economic or social barriers, cannot afford or secure adequate legal counsel.”

In recognition of this professional obligation, NC IOLTA — North Carolina Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts — works directly with lawyers and financial institutions across North Carolina to set up interest-bearing general trust accounts, commonly referred to as IOLTA accounts. We then distribute the interest earned as funds to our grantees who, in turn, provide legal support services across our communities.

Funding provided from IOLTA accounts comes at no cost to the lawyer, law office or client and supports access to civil legal aid so that all individuals, families and children can fairly navigate the justice system.
